Let me tell you what you won't find on this
page first. There are no pictures of the
latest trick or traction designs, and no
pictures of commercial kites. The reason?
I do owe some of those kites, but there
are lots of (better) webpages about such kites.
What you will find here is a bizarre collection
of kites that are unusual, especially well
crafted, or that I just happen to like.

A Hembra ("Stunkites"
plan) with floral design,
no guessing where I got the inspiration :-)
The black applique work is done on both
sides of the fabric, sandwiching
the
green fabric. This way there is no
visible seem.

The ideal kite for Halloween, imagin knocking
on your neighbours window with one wingtip!
It flies a bit slow, like an ace/trlby kite.
but it
sure frightens the heck out of people at night.
The original design was a small polyethene
kite by J.P.Kuil, this ripstop version
is 2x2 mtr

Call me old fashioned, but I still like the
shape
of the Hawaiian delta. I know, it can't do tricks
and it's not precise enough for ballet, but
it still comes out of my bags occasionally
for a relaxed hour of flying.

The applique work on this soft foil
was inspired
by all the dogs trying to chase my stuntkites,
always ending up with a bewildered and
somewhat dizzy look in their eyes.

An attemp to build a very
fast Flexifoil. The AR
is 5, the profile thicknes is 85% of the usual
Flexifoil, the number of ribs is more than
doubled, and the ribs are crossvented to
prevent tip collapsing. Result: faster than
the regular speedfoils in light winds,
but accelleration problems in high winds
and sesitive to turbulation.
(but it looks good, doesn't it?) |

The speedfoils as described in "Stuntkites".
Much faster and manouvrable than the regular
flexifoil, and looking less baggy. It makes me
wonder why Flexifoil doesn't make them this way

A summer eve with not to
much wind,
the ideal coditions for flying a large stack,
at least large enough for me. If you
gather a lot of kite flying friends you
can construct much larger stacks.
The current world record is over
200 flexifoils, but you"ll need
special gear to fly such a stack. |

A slightly altered version of the Relax,
a kite
described in Shimmelpfennigs book
"Phantatishes Drachenwelt", and one of the
first kites with skincurving. The name
says it all, it is a very relaxing kite to fly.
Very good tracking, and an even pull
all over the wind window. I even use it
for powerkiting in stormy weather.

One of the best kites to learn
the basics of Quad line flying,
the Twin. Easy to build and
al,ost indestructable. |

Every experienced kiteflier knows it, you
can
perform the most amazing trick with your
high performance delta, and know one might
notice, but pull out a train of ACE/Trlby kites
and cars stop withe screaching tires. The plastic
skins of the original ACE wear rather fast,
but I like the original striped design. I
painted the design on ripstop with help
of a templlate for a more permanent skin.
